Savannah, GA, has beautiful oak trees covered in Spanish moss, fabulous parks and squares, buildings full of history and character, shopping, and fantastic food.
The Riverwalk

The Riverwalk has shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels. You will also find the riverboats and ferries here. The home of the Love Lock Bridge is on one of the walk-over bridges on the upper side of the Riverwalk. Make sure you walk the upper street and cross those bridges because there are shops up top also. Take in the beautiful history of this area, the roads, buildings, and more; they are a sight. Something I wish I had known before ordering an Uber back to our hotel, our driver said many Ubers won’t pick you up down on the Riverwalk because of the cobblestone streets. So if you want an Uber and don’t want it canceled, I’d recommend going to the upper street to be picked up.

Trolley Tour

This is a hop-on, hop-off experience; if you have not noticed by now, I am a huge fan of this type of thing. I have been on the Old Savannah Tours and the Old Town Trolley.
Old Savannah Tours, if you get on early in the morning, there is a good chance you will get a driver and narrator, while later on, it’s typically just a driver who also does the narrating. They go around each of the main squares entirely and give you a lot of history and information. They offer a bundle to ride the riverboat.
Old Town Trolley, this one was great. It was very similar to the Old Savannah Tours. The main difference is that they only loop the squares partially, and their history is brief but informative. They also offer ghost tours.
Whichever you decide to experience, stay on the trolley for one complete loop before getting off once you get on the trolley.

Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist

Located at 222 East Harris Street. You can walk in and tour the Church as long as there is no mass and it is during business hours. Be respectful while you are inside because it is still an active church. You can do a tour where they will share history and information about the Church with you; I did not do this as we just stopped on our way out of Savannah. This was my favorite part of the trip; the stunning history, architecture, and craftsmanship.

JW Marriott

At the end of the Riverwalk, 400 W River St., this Marriott hotel is one you need to walk through the lobby. I know, I know, why does she want me to walk through a hotel, that is so random, and I really hate to give spoilers, but I want to make sure you go there. SPOILERS (in the pictures below too): In the lobby, you will see fossils, bones, rocks, and other things to tour and appreciate. There are also a lot of really cool bars inside; one has all kinds of animals, a bar with a roof slide (adults only), and a very exclusive restaurant inside one of the towers. Definitely recommend walking through here if you aren’t able to stay.

Shopping

Broughton Street is where the shopping is; Lululemon, Gap, Banana Republic, H&M, and local shops are located here. There are also shops on the riverwalk at River Street Market Place and the City Market near Ellis Square. Definitely save some time for shopping.
Good Eats

Lizzy’s Burger Bar, 417 E River St., down on the riverwalk, was fantastic. The food and service was terrific. We went for lunch, and it was the perfect stop. You can get your drink in a container similar to a Capri Sun to take and walk around.
The Pirates’ house, 20 E Broad St., had a delightful dinner here. While it wasn’t exactly what we expected when we went there, it was still good. The kids were given a placemat where you could pop out a hat, eyepatch, and other pirate items, which was fun. The restaurant has multiple rooms and kept all groups with kids in the way back.
Savannah’s Candy Kitchen, 225 E River St., if you want candy or sweets, this is your stop. They have everything here, chocolate-covered apples, marshmallows, pretzels, rice crispies, pralines, chocolate cups, taffy, and so much more. You can really spend a lot of time looking around here.
There are tons of other places all over the city that we did not get to try. I hope to visit again to try some more places.
Old Savannah Buildings

I am amazed by this city’s architecture and the details of each building. Take the time to look around and see what you can spot.
Happy traveling! I hope you get to explore Savannah’s beautiful charm and history. Comment below what you love about this city.
